As we neared the end of 2020 our CEO, Ana Amicarella, recently reached her first year milestone with EthosEnergy, we sat down with her to discuss her reflections on the last 12 months.

As we neared the end of 2020 our CEO, Ana Amicarella, recently reached her first year milestone with EthosEnergy, we sat down with her to discuss her reflections on the last 12 months. In a year that Ana always knew would be interesting in a new role, the industry (and the world) was hit with unforeseen headwinds; an “unthinkable global pandemic”.
Ana starts by saying this last year has been a “remarkable journey” that she could not have done without the support and encouragement of our Board and customers as well as teammates from across EthosEnergy. In her first few months, she spent time meeting our people and getting to know the business, holding several sessions with key leaders to best shape the future of EthosEnergy. The result of which is our OneEthos transformation.
“The industry was faced with outage cancellations and postponements due to COVID-19, and a depressed oil and gas sector. EthosEnergy’s reaction was to restructure the business to set ourselves up to better align with our customers and market dynamics.”
OneEthos wasn’t only about a business restructure, it was also the opportunity for a cultural transformation across EthosEnergy.
“When I look at our beliefs – Safety, Service Excellence, People, Financial Responsibility and Integrity – they are very valid and current but they are not statements of action. They are very robust in terms of what we ought to have as our beliefs as a company. I wanted the commitments and behaviors to be actionable and things people could associate with. What does good leadership look like? What are the commitments and behaviors that extraordinary leaders display?”
The recent launch of our new behaviors and commitments is the first step in this, they span across four key commitments that support our customers and deepen our team spirit within EthosEnergy. These commitments and behaviors will be driven and shaped by our people but Ana explains what they mean to her;
“’Engaging’, we have an attitude towards customers where they want to work with us. You want to work with people that are authentic, that are honest, that are excited to be here. We’ve got to engage internally and project that externally.
“’Relentless’, is part of my personality and a lot of our teammates’ personalities. Relentless in the pursuit of excellence. Empowered to fix what’s wrong and raise a concern when necessary. A culture of continuous improvement has to be in our DNA, doing it right the 1st time.
“’Nimbleness’, will allow us to win. If we’re quick, if we’re agile, if we adjust to market conditions. We will be the service provider that does things right the 1st time and is quick about it.
“’Inclusiveness’, what a great place when you feel welcomed and embraced no matter what your accent is no matter what your color is no matter what your gender is. We want our people to feel part of the team. The important sense of belonging, respect and really putting the team ahead of our individual needs.
“I come from an athletics background and I learned very early on you achieve far more as a team than as individuals. We need to make sure these behaviors are embedded in our culture and recognize them.”
It’s not all about reflection for Ana, she’s looking forward to 2021 and whilst we know the market will continue to be impacted by COVID-19 she sees a recovery in the second half of the year.
